HOW TO SPEND YOUR SANTORINI HOLIDAY

Santorini holidays are perfect for those looking for a tranquil, picturesque escape. Famed for blue domes, luxurious hotels and translucent waters, there’s a reason Santorini is one of the most sought after Greek island destinations.

There are lots of things to see and do on a Santorini holiday. When you’re not ogling its breathtaking views, you can soak up the sun on one of its gorgeous beaches and take a dip in the turquoise Aegean Sea. For something more fast paced, there are two water sport centres that make a great family day out. Or take a cable car ride to the bottom of Thira’s caldera, a half-moon shaped bay caused by a historic volcanic eruption. Then hop on a donkey for the trip back up to the top!

Shop in Thiras boutiques and shops, where handmade Byzantine jewellery and embroidered linens are a good buy. The best place to look for art on a Santorini holiday is Oia, where the picture-postcard views inspire local artists. Take a boat trip to Thirassia, an unspoilt island with charming painted houses, a monastery and 20 churches. Visit one of the island's wineries and sample the local wines.

For the best nightlife on your Santorini holiday, head for Thira where you’ll find bars and clubs overlooking the caldera. Occasional guest DJs appear here during the summer months. Elsewhere, the most lively place is Kamari, which also has lots of bars and clubs. Or for a quiet night enjoy a relaxing meal in one of the informal bars along the caldera. Don't miss the sublime sunset, best viewed from Oia.
