Greece Holidays

What Greece Holidays Look Like

Holidays to Greece have been a favourite among Brits for decades, and with the stunning landscapes and warm weather, it’s easy to see why. Tucked away in south-eastern Europe, Greece and the Greek islands offer holidaymakers everything they could ask for. Its perfect mix of culture, history, beaches and nightlife make it an ideal destination for anyone looking for the ultimate sunny escape.

The country’s long list of resorts each come with their own personality and charm. Whether you are a solo traveller, couple, family or group of friends, there is a holiday in Greece for you. Hays’ Greek island holidays include some of the most popular destinations in the region. We offer stunning retreats to some of the most sought-after island locations, like glamorous Santorini escapes, buzzing Mykonos and Kos holidays, as well as historic Rhodes holidays. Islands such as Crete boast the electric nightlife of Malia, the ancient culture and history of Rethymnon and the family-friendly water parks and beaches of Hersonissos. Once you’ve walked the harbours, shopped at the local markets and tasted Cretan delicacies, it’s easy to understand why Brits return to this island year after year.

Our holidays in Corfu are especially popular with holidaymakers looking to enjoy cocktails on the beach by day, and stunning sunsets and bar-hopping by night. Alternatively, if style and sophistication are top of your holiday agenda, then Corfu Town is the island’s hot spot for shopping in the local boutiques before relaxing in one of the many cafes to choose from.

We don’t just offer Greek island holidays – if you want to explore more of Greece, why not head over to the mainland to bask in the history of Athens at the countless museums and historical sites? Or soak in the culture as you make your way through the endless local craft and jewellery shops, coffee shops, bars and restaurants. By night, watch the city come alive as locals and tourists of all ages flock to bars and clubs to get their share of the city’s famous nightlife.

With hundreds of Greek islands and mainland resorts for you to visit, you really are spoilt for choice when it comes to holidays in Greece. Choose one destination for a relaxed trip, or hop on a Greek island cruise and see the sights – it’s your holiday, you make the rules! With an average flight time of only four hours from the UK and average temperatures of 25 °C, you’re sure to fall in love with Greece, whatever holiday you choose.

Things To Do In Greece

Holidays in Greece and the Greek Islands are packed with things to do. As well as a haven for relaxation, the beaches of the Greek Islands offer plentiful sports and activities. From banana boat and jet ski rides, to wind surfing, water skiing, parasailing, and kayaking, discover water-based fun aplenty. Waterparks and theme parks put in an appearance on some of the Greek islands too.

Away from the beach, other activities to enjoy in the Greek Islands include horse riding, mountain biking, tennis and golf. One of the most popular ways to explore Greece is of course from the sea, with island hopping boat trips the best way to do it.

Walking tours along picturesque Grecian coastal paths, through pretty rural villages and meadows full of flowers are also popular, especially in the cooler autumn months. Culture fans can soak up the islands' abundant ancient sites and uncover centuries old archaeological locations, Roman ruins and remains, and museums filled with art and artefacts.

Nightlife on your Greece holiday varies greatly depending on where you choose to stay. There are plenty of options including glossy cocktails bars, big name DJs, karaoke clubs, British style pubs, quaint tavernas, live music, Greek folklore shows, and much more. Stay in a young and lively beach resort on one of the islands for the liveliest night time scene, or choose a break in Athens or Mykonos for a touch of sophistication.

Food & Drinks In Greece

Greek favourites like moussaka, souvlaki and dolmades are best enjoyed al fresco in small tavernas. Most big resorts and cities also have a wide choice of restaurants, embracing flavours from around the world and the odd fast food joint too. Many visitors to beach resorts choose all inclusive holidays, where buffet meals, snacks and selected drinks are included in the cost. Don't miss freshly picked olives and other fruit and vegetables. Aniseed flavoured Ouzo is the preferred aperitif and the robustly flavoured Retsina wine is the popular accompaniment to any meal.
