Staff Educational: Oasis of the Seas

Date Posted: 20/08/2024

Meganann from the Cruise Product team recently ventured onboard Oasis of the Seas for a 4 night sailing! We caught up with her to find out all about her time at sea...

"I was lucky enough to set sail onboard Oasis of the Seas, travelling from Barcelona to Rome. When I arrived at the port and took my first glance at the ship, I was speechless at the size, I didn't realise how big it was! When boarding, we entered next to Sorrento’s pizza, which lead us into the Royal Promenade. There was so much on the Royal Promenade from the Promenade Café to the Rising Tide bar, which I was lucky enough to experience. I stayed in a balcony cabin which was beautifully presented and very clean. It was also incredibly spacious with a big balcony that housed a table and chairs, where you could relax and watch the stunning scenery go by.

For our first night onboard, we dined in the main dining room. There was lots of options to choose from with starters, mains and desserts along with a Chef’s recommendation at the top of the menu. I chose to go for the tomato soup and chicken with steamed vegetables. The food was outstanding along with the staff, they were super friendly and always had a smile on their face. I was really excited to have the experience on the Rising Tide bar which is a bar in the middle of the ship that rises up from the Royal Promenade on deck 5 to Central Park on deck 8.

During our time onboard we got to experience all the different types of entertainment from the Aqua Show to the Ice show. The entertainment was second to none, I was in awe the whole time at the amazing skills of the team. The Ice show was the first show we seen, and it is bewildering how the iceskaters were able to do such amazing tricks on a moving ship. The story line of the ice show flowed so well and was beautifully done too. Our second night onboard was the Aqua Show, I am still speechless to this day at how magnificent the show was. The spent the whole show gobsmacked at the heights that the divers were diving from, 55 feet above sea level, into a pool, again on a moving ship!

The ship sailed from Barcelona to Rome via Palma De Mallorca, Marseille and La Spezia. The first port of call was Palma De Mallorca, where we made the most of the beautiful weather by meandering around the local market and exploring the Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca.

The second port of call was Marseille, we ventured around the streets looking in and out of little local shops and headed towards the harbour. At the Harbour we found a tour train which gave us the opportunity to visit the Notre-Dame of la Garde. This was the most amazing experience.

The final port of call was La Spezia, Italy. We were able to find another train tour that took us into the centre of La Spezia, where we were able to wonder the streets and see experience the culture. I tried a local restaurant and a local gelato shop, which were delicious.

On the Last morning onboard, we were able to part take in a Q&A with the Captain and head house keeper. This was a fascinating experience as were able to understand their day to day lives onboard.

My overall experience from the beginning was outstanding! I cannot fault Oasis of the Seas, it truly is one amazing ship. There is something for everyone onboard  from all the restaurants and bars, to the Ultimate Abyss and the Flow rider. Not to forget the carousel they have onboard along with their very own sweet shop."
