Staying Safe When You Travel

Date Posted: 21/07/2023

School is out and the big summer getaway has started – here are a few tips to help you stay safe and healthy on your holiday abroad.

Stick with your friends

Don’t leave anyone behind, stay in touch, keep an eye on each other’s drinks, make sure you know where you are staying!

Going abroad with your friends is all about having fun and enjoying a holiday to remember for all the right reasons:

Don’t leave anyone behind – stay together and in contact throughout the night, agree a meeting point if anyone gets lost, then go home together

Set up a group chat so you can keep in touch and share your location with each other

Keep an eye on your drinks – watch out for larger measures than you are used to and don’t leave your drink unattended or accept drinks from complete strangers to prevent the possibility of your drink being spiked

Keep details of your accommodation on you, perhaps screenshot your hotel’s address or keep an address card in your wallet.

Make sure you have adequate travel insurance

Travel insurance provides protection and coverage for unexpected events that can happen on holiday, such as:

Medical emergencies and having to be returned home for medical treatment

Lost or stolen baggage

Trip cancellations or interruptions

Natural disasters

You must buy the right insurance for you and your travel plans. Not having enough or the right cover can be very expensive if things do go wrong while you are abroad. A basic policy might not provide enough coverage for your medical history or planned holiday activities such as water sports or quad biking.

Arranging the right insurance cover only takes a few minutes and could save you a lot of money.

Declare all your medical conditions

Check that medical evacuation is included

Ensure your insurance covers all the activities you intend to enjoy

Check your insurance covers the whole trip

Share your policy details with friends and family

Pack your policy document
