The Big Apple's Best Rooftop Hangouts

Date Posted: 02/01/2020

We’d like to start by saying… Happy New Year! We hope you had a fabulous 2019 of travel but we’re rooting for you that 2020 brings even bigger and better things.

NYC is, of course, known for many things… It’s sprawling, green Central Park, busy scene of Times Square, iconic Statue of Liberty, mouth-watering American grub, and of course the skyscraper-dominated horizon.

No trip to New York would be complete without an evening spent up-high to take in the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city and sip refreshing cocktails. Simply sit back, relax, and admire all that the Big Apple is so famous for.

If you’ve already got an NYC trip booked up or are thinking about it, here are our recommendations on the city’s best rooftop hangouts…

Mr Purple

Situated just above the Hotel Indigo Lower East Side, discover the stunning venue Mr Purple on the 15th floor. Join a crowd of the city’s youngest and most lively as they come together to create Instagram-able boomerangs of their cocktail clinks and pose for the most desirable selfies. This super-chic space boasts 360-degree wide views of Manhattan and its very own named drink ‘Mr Purple’, which is a must-try. The tantalizing menu here features delicious fish tacos and buttermilk fried chicken sliders; the perfect combination for an evening of bliss.

Harriet’s Rooftop & Lounge

A collection of NYC’s most cinematic views – spanning the Statue of Liberty to reach uptown Manhattan – can be enjoyed at this indoor/outdoor social spot at the very top of 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. Capturing a real Brooklyn industrial feel, you’ll see outdoors that there is stadium-like seating, cosy fire pits, and lush gardens that position themselves vertically. Uncover an old-fashioned décor cocktail lounge when you step indoors; it’s recommended you book a table here to avoid disappointment!

Le Bain at the Standard

Nestled in downtown New York, in the Meatpacking District, lies Le Bain at the Standard. Perfect for both relaxing and parties that continue to the early hours, the rooftop terrace is the ultimate city paradise. Besides anything else, the views from this point are simply breathtaking and definitely worth getting your camera out for. Recline here for afternoon cocktails in the sunshine or call by later in the evening with friends for a more vibrant feel with live DJs – just be prepared for a little bit of queueing as it’s a pretty popular joint.

The Water Tower

You don’t get more New York than a rooftop bar set in a water tower, do you? Positioned in a cylindrical structure above the Williamsburg Hotel’s outdoor swimming pool, sensational vistas across the city can be seen far and wide. Admire Williamsburg, the East River, and Manhattan through floor-to-ceiling windows or head inside to notice the bar’s back wall covered completely in pieces painted by talented local artists.

SERRA Fiorita

Experience an Italian countryside feel in SERRA Fiorita, at the Eataly rooftop in Flatiron. Sip Aperol Spritz with friends and take in the airy and spacious surroundings that make this place so relaxing. Suitably beautiful for your Instagram profile, the colourful explosion of summer flowers is the perfect backdrop for any photo. Italian food never tasted so good either, especially in New York, so why not celebrate all that the country is so well-known for?

Whether its daytime cocktails with your best friends or the chance for a late-night party with DJ vibes… There’s something for everybody in New York.
