P&O Cruises: A new generation of cruising

Date Posted: 15/08/2018

It’s clear to see why P&O Cruises have used the tagline ‘Holiday like never before’ for their brand new ship, Iona! It will be the largest cruise ship ever built for the British market, with capacity of up to 5,200 guests. Just because it’s a big ship doesn’t mean it’ll harm the environment though, as they’ve made it the most environmentally friendly ship in the history of P&O, by using liquefied natural gas to power it.

There is plenty to keep you occupied on board when you aren’t off gallivanting in the beautiful places you’ll be visiting. Relax in one of 18 whirlpools or have a swim in one of four pools (one indoor). Perhaps you’d prefer a drink as you overlook the sea? Well there’s more than ten places that can offer you this.  The Grand Atrium on decks six, seven and eight is the beating heart of the Iona. Its contemporary design has been crafted by maritime and architectural experts, coupled with uninterrupted panoramic views it makes for a fantastic hub. Grab a chair and enjoy a fine wine at the Glass House. It’s dedicated to the love of fine wine and great food. Located on deck seven, it has an impressive wine list you can work your way through while enjoying the Grand Atriums aerial performances.

Alternatively, you could head over to the Emerald Bar on deck six, which offers a comfortable, living-room feel with a Covent Garden style buzz. The Emerald Bar has a large menu of premium cocktails, making it a great place to enjoy pre-dinner drinks a late night tipple. From mid-morning, you’ll be able to enjoy pop-up entertainment and the aerial circus performances in the early evening.

You’re most certainly not going to go hungry either. There’s over 15 to suit all appetites and eight of those are specialty restaurants.  The Keel and Cow is a P&O Cruises first. This gastropub located on deck 8 offers quick and convenient breakfasts before a day ashore. Lunchtimes bring top quality food such as a beef and stout burger, beer battered fish and triple-cooked chips, black-pudding scotch eggs and more. Sounds great to us! On an evening, you’re going to enjoy hearty dishes and a range of steaks.

The Keel and Cow is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a relaxed, informal environment.  Vistas Café Bar is a warm and welcoming café with a buzzing atmosphere. Chill out here and enjoy premium tea, coffee and snacks all day. P&O Cruises Food Hero and master patissier Eric Lanlard has some tempting treats for you to sink your teeth into. Grab yourself a book from the book shop and sit back and enjoy the views with a hot drink. Bliss.

The major entertainment hub, Skydome will be one the star attraction of the Iona. It will feature an impressive roof and a pool with retractable stage. It’s a unique space whatever the weather. Relax during the day and enjoy the entertainment with informal dining. On a night time, it comes alive with immersive shows you WON’T want to miss.

Iona brings choice, flexibility and the ability to create your very own on-board experiences. What’s more, P&O Cruises promises that its DNA will still shine through. Cruising on the Iona is going to be one amazing experience and we can’t wait to see where she’ll be heading when destinations go on sale in September!
