BOO! It’s that spooktacular time of year again, Halloween. The time to get your scare on and paint the town dead! But make no bones about it, there are plenty of places across Europe you could be entering at your own risk this Halloween! So come join us for some spider cider as we run you through some of the most fang-tastic places to go!
If you’re thinking about heading to Benidorm this Halloween… Terra Mitica theme park is the place to be. Immersive terror walks, horror animations and workshops are the chills and thrills up for grabs! There are three routes dependent on age; Babyzombie, Familyshock and Extremdeath. For the too cute to spook, Babyzombie is designed to show the friendliest face of Halloween; with activities and attractions. On the flip side, Extremdeath houses the largest scare zone in Europe with over 7000 metres. If you’re a fan of things that go bump in the night, don’t be a scaredy cat, and get yourself over to the passages of Necrotown! Just like being in a live film set, you will be transported to an uninhabited village to the people of the dead. Bats off to you if you survive this concoction of assassinations and disappearances, plunging you head first into a mystery filled storyline! For Halloween night itself, Terra Mitica has planned family events such as a costume contest that will reward people in different categories! Come midnight is where it really comes alive. Zombie Assault runs from 12am – 7am. Five themed areas and 14 tests of survival. Participants will try and get to the safety zone as zombies chase them down in every corner of the 900,000 sq. metre park! Will you survive the night? Discover Beni-doom!
Tenerife is another great place to celebrate Halloween.’Dia de los Difuntos’ (Day of the Dead) is typically celebrated on November 1st. There are plenty of parties at hotels, on top of the already jam-packed entertainment schedule. On the topic of parties, there is the Santa Cruz Halloween Festival to sink your teeth into. With superstar DJ’s from 10pm to 5am there is magic in the night when the pumpkins glow with light! Alternatively, you could hit Playa de las Americas to find your costume and get your scare on at the Cirque du Tramps, Tenerife’s largest Halloween party. The club will be transformed and decorated throughout, with staff joining you in getting dressed up for a night of mayhem! Children can also have a boo-tiful time carving pumpkins in shopping malls and heading to local parks to enjoy entertainers and plays. Some hotels even offer zombie pilates and football with the ghosts! Take your little ones around the hotel for trick or treat and then watch them boogie the night away at the mini monster disco! If none of that tickles your fancy, you could always just hang around for a spell by the pool! Tener-grief is the place to go!
Grab your broom, we’re off to the Algarve! It’s here you will find Zoo Marine park has been completely transformed for 15 days to incorporate scary themed decorations, fun performances and surprises. You’re sure to have a day shrouded in mystery. Only the bravest will see the light at the end of the tunnel of the scary walkthrough. Will it be you? Much like Terra Mitica, you will encounter zombies, witches and even pirates in street animation. There’s sure to be a few jump scares! Little ones can enjoy the themed decorations like; graves, tombstones, skeletons, spiders webs and of course, pumpkins! Face painting is available to add the finishing touch to your already bone-chilling costume. If you’re going for the full day, a tip would be to take a change of outfit, as the park is part water-park, part amusement park and part zoo! Spend the day zipping down slides and playing in the waves before watching the presentations of the dolphins or birds of prey. If you’re feeling like all that might whet your appetite, then book for the Halloween dinner. Mind you, this is not for the faint hearted! The themed meal will take part in a dark ambience with reduced light. On offer at the Hell’s Kitchen buffet is the likes of leeches and eyeballs (meatballs and black spaghetti) and rat liver pate (chocolate mousse). All for a hauntingly low price of €35. Get yourself to Portu-ghoul and visit the Algarve!
Costa del Sol is the place for mummy’s little monsters. The port of Malaga holds Halloween for Kids; a costume party with catwalk, photocall, contest and prizes! In Soho Malaga, the Night in Black begins from 6pm so after your done strutting your stuff, head over there for screaming contests, pumpkin and cupcake workshops and a rock concert. There is also the Botanical Garden la Concepcion, which is a tropical paradise stretching across 250,000 square metres. With over 500 palm trees divided into 95 different species, there’s plenty to see. Two of the highlights are the Chilean palms, one of which is the largest in Spain! On the night of Halloween, the gardens have prepared a night time tour to unlock the wonders and the most symbolic parts of the historical garden. The tour will take you past hanging scarecrows and other decorations. Beware, there may be something lurking in the shadows waiting to give you a fright! If you’re feeling a bit more gruesome, the English Graveyard is open for the ultra-brave to discover characters from all across the underworld! Actors will take you through the cemetery telling you the tales of their death and how they wound up there! Be sure to go to the Costa del Soul!
