Be inspired: Valentine’s Day destinations not to be missed

Date Posted: 07/02/2017

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner we have a few last minute suggestions.

Whether you want to pop the question, celebrate your anniversary or just enjoy a romantic getaway, there’s no better time to sweep your loved one away than Valentine’s Day.

Las Vegas

This city is sure to light up your love life; whether or not you’re looking to have a spontaneous drive-through wedding at the Little White Chapel - there’s something for everyone!

Watch the dancing fountains in front of the iconic Bellagio hotel with its atrium decorated for Chinese New Year. Or ride the world’s tallest observation wheel – the 550-foot High Roller! If you’re not a fan of heights, why not cruise around a 320-acre private lake with chocolate strawberries and a glass of champagne?

Sweden

An igloo for two in the village of Jukkasjävi? Northern Sweden is probably one of the best places to see the northern lights, as it lies under the auroral oval and enjoys plenty of clear skies. Sweden is also where the world’s first Icehotel is situated. The hotel gets rebuilt every year and temperatures are kept at a chilly minus 5 degrees, but who cares if you have your loved one to keep you warm?

Have a drink at the ice bar or explore the wonderful art suites at the hotel. If you get a bit too cold you can steam up in your own private sauna. There are plenty of other activities too, such as ice sculpting or a Northern Lights Safari by Snowmobile.

Gran Canaria

If minus 5 degrees is not your cup of tea, Gran Canaria has plenty of romance to offer. Stay on the Amadores (Lovers) beach for breath taking sunset views, bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the moment.

Set off on an adventure and explore the island’s beautiful sand dunes. Or enjoy a spa day at the largest thalassotherapy spa in Europe.

Venice

Venice is the ultimate City of Love. Why not enjoy its beautiful palazzos and churches, resembling illustrations cut from a book of fairy tales? It’s no surprise Venice is one of the most popular destinations for Valentine’s Day breaks.

Only a few hours on a plane from England, it is certainly a great option if you’re looking for a short break away. If you want to avoid the tourist traps, take a break from sightseeing and pop into a Bacaro - a small local bar which offers fine wine and tasty quick snacks for only a few euros.

London

Date night in London! Book a nice hotel, be a tourist for a day, then enjoy a lovely meal and a few drinks in one of the capital’s many restaurants.

Or if you think overbooked cinemas and restaurants are so last year, think outside the box and head to one of the city’s alternative events. If you’re on a budget, a 40-minute circular sightseeing cruise with live commentary from specialist guides down the Thames can be booked for less than £20. Or what better way to enjoy views of London’s skyline than with a glass of wine, climbing above the Thames? The London Eye has private Cupid’s Capsules available; with Champagne, chocolate truffles and a personal London Eye host.
