Kickstart the new year with a February holiday that will have the whole family buzzing! Whether you want to escape the cold and make the most of some winter sun or head off on a skiing adventure, there’s no better time for a schools-out getaway.
Tenerife
If you don’t want to travel too far to enjoy the heat that the UK is clearly lacking at the minute, then Tenerife is your place. With temperatures averaging around 20 C, you’ll find the southern coast tends to be a bit warmer and drier making it a tourist hotspot in the winter months. If you’re a thrill-seeking family, then there are plenty of water sports to keep you entertained during your stay. Try your hand at surfing, jet skiing, kayaking, or snorkelling. Or make the most of the surrounding mountainous terrain by taking a hike and appreciating the stunning views of the turquoise seas, golden sand beaches and lush green forests. If you’re lucky you may even get the chance to spot some spectacular marine life! During winter there is a higher chance to see whales and dolphins dancing about in ocean so get your cameras at the ready as you might just capture the picture of a lifetime.
Austria
Looking for a ski holiday the whole family can enjoy? Why not jet off to Austria where snow-capped mountains and cosy log cabins await you. Serfaus is great for beginner skiers or young families with the option of ski schools there to help your little ones develop their skills. There are also plenty of child-friendly hotels offering kids clubs, swimming pools, waterslides, and a climbing wall. Not to mention the snow-tastic activates you can partake in from toboggan runs and fun areas to winter hiking and snowmobiling.
Morocco
If you’re hoping to avoid the summer crowds of Morocco but still enjoy a bit of warm weather, February is the perfect time to visit. The cheaper flights and accommodation are always a plus too! You’ll find the averages temperatures of 21 C ideal for exploring the desert. Why not head off across the golden sands on a camel ride, challenge your family to a sand boarding race or enjoy a thrill-seeking sand dune jeep drive. If there’s any TV or film fanatics in your family, then a trip to Atlas film studios is a must! Take a tour around famous sets from iconic films such as Star Wars and Gladiator and see just how they were brought to life through intricate details and mesmerising props. And of course, no holiday to Morocco would be complete without a trip to the souks where you can explore the market stalls and haggle for great bargains.
St Lucia
The lush green oasis of St Lucia crosses the ultimate feeling of luxury with a lot of family fun. Visiting in February ensures you one of the driest and least humid times of year with average temperatures reaching 27 C, perfect for a winter sun getaway. If you’re looking for a totally unique experience, make your way over to the Rabot Estate, the home of Hotel Chocolat’s cocoa beans. Here, you can head into the rainforest for a tour of the cacao groves before partaking in the exciting task of crafting your own chocolate bar. Want to enjoy the scenic beaches as well as adding a bit of adventure to your day? Then Splash Island Water Park located in Rodney Bay is a must! This inflatable water park boasts an array of obstacles including climbing walls, slides, monkey bars, water volleyball, swings and more! Sounds like a fun day to us!
Barcelona
February is certainly one of the colder months to visit Barcelona but that doesn’t mean it won’t make a great winter getaway. With fewer crowds than the summer months, you’re bound to find yourself a great bargain with cheaper accommodation on offer. You’ll also get the chance to explore the city without the sticky summer heat. The colourful mosaics and whimsical sculptures of Park Guell are fascinating at any age making for a great family activity. There are also plenty of museums to get the mind racing including the Cosmocaixa filled with floors of science experiments or why not head to the aquarium to see creatures from the deep blue up close and personal.
Mexico
Sick of the ordinary getaways? Michoacan’s forest is host to a spectacular event each winter season as billions of monarch butterflies take flight in order to seek the warmer climates of Mexico. In keeping with the nature theme, you can book onto the Celestun flamingo tour where you have the opportunity to see thousands of these stunning pink birds congregating. February is a prime time for this, so you don’t want to miss out! And of course, a trip to Mexico isn’t complete without making the most of the postcard worthy beaches. Whether a day of relaxation is on the cards or adventure is calling your name, there’s plenty to do. From jet-skiing and banana boats to sipping your favourite cocktail on the golden sands.
Cyprus
Although quieter in the winter months, Cyprus is a fairly lively destination year-round. The costal towns offer picture perfect beaches and temperatures around 20 C. Strap on your snorkel and take a dive in the crystal-clear waters to appreciate the tropical sea life (and even shipwrecks) the coastline has to offer! There are also plenty of waterparks awaiting you with something to keep the whole family entertained, whether you spend your time floating down the lazy river or racing down the slides.
