Staff Educational - Dylan’s Trip to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria

Date Posted: 27/11/2023

Earlier this year, Dylan from our Social Media team jetted off to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria, where he got the amazing opportunity to explore and experience everything it had to offer.

We caught up with Dylan to ask about his experience and see what he got up to...

“The first day admittedly was a lot of travelling (as I had to reach connecting flights from Newcastle to London to Bourgas), but it was all worth it when we finally arrived at our hotel - Secrets Sunny Beach.

It was absolutely beautiful, nothing like anything that I’d stayed in previously. The room was huge, with everything you would expect from a luxury hotel. Plenty of storage, all the utilities you need, a huge, comfy bed and to top it off, an incredible view of the pool and the beach from the balcony.

Oh, and not to mention the fully stocked mini fridge, an extra added bonus!

Day two was when it really began as we got settled in. Starting the day off with a big, delicious breakfast, I got up really early so I had a chance to explore before we started our tour of Sunny Beach. A walk along the beach and a chilled drink by the pool later, we were ready to start our day.

We were taken on a tour around several hotels, including Secrets Sunny Beach’s sister hotel, Dreams Sunny Beach. During that day, we also explored a range of other hotels, AluaSun Helios Beach, Alua Helios Bay to name a couple.

But the day wasn’t over, as we had plans on the night to visit Khan’s Tent - Bulgaria’s Number 1 excursion. I really didn’t know what to expect when I was told where we were going, but it absolutely delivered. Delicious traditional Bulgarian food was served up to us whilst we had the pleasure of enjoying a fantastic show filled with a variety of acts. As someone who’s not a massive fan of these kinds of shows - even I enjoyed it!

We wrapped up the night with a few drinks and hit the dancefloor before heading back to the hotel ready for another busy day ahead tomorrow.

We woke up the next day to tired, achy legs - but full of enthusiasm as we set off on another journey around the area.

The first half of the day was similar to the last, as we explored range of beautiful hotels, from budget to luxury, but there was one in particular that stood out to me, purely due to the size of the resort - Sol Nessebar Palace. There was so much to do within the hotel. Plenty of bars, an extensive menu, large pools and an onsite waterpark (that I was dying to test out), it was the perfect family hotel!

Shortly after we’d explored a few more hotels, we set off to the ancient city of Nessebar. I’d done a bit of research before I left, but it still surprised me with how different it is to the rest of the area. We’d left the partying and relaxing part of Sunny Beach and swapped it for history and exploration. Every corner we turned, there was a piece of history. Dating back 3,000 years, there was a lot to learn about in only a few hours, so we investigated a few of the more famous buildings such as the Church of Christ Pantokrator (pictured), a medieval Eastern Orthodox church - which was in pristine condition given its age. After a couple of hours of exploring, we found a local bar and took shelter from the 35 degree heat while treating ourselves to a drink or two.

We got back to the hotel in the afternoon and had a bit of free time before our evening ‘goodbye’ meals. Naturally, we hit the pool and bar!

After walking around in the beating sun, there was no better way to end the day than spending a few hours in the pool and making the most of the rest of our time away. A great few days spent with a great few people.

To conclude, I couldn't recommend Sunny Beach enough if you’re looking to go on holiday. It’s one of the only destinations where I can say that there is truly something for everyone.

When I was told I was going to Bulgaria, I had no idea what to expect. I’d heard mixed reviews, but I wanted to give it a chance myself - and I’m so glad that I did.
